#Punjab has just 3.67% of its area under #forest cover. #Tree cover in the state is around 6%. Agriculture and Environment Awareness Centre is requesting people of Punjab to plant small forests (called Jhiris) to increase tree cover. AEAC is coordinating with #Karsewa #KhadoorSahib in planting these small forests under Karsewa’s drive to plant 550 “Guru Nanak Memorial Forests”. Under thsi drive, 184th Guru Nanak Memorial forest was planted on 25 July 2022 at village Santput Chupki near Kurali (in Ropar district). Around 550 saplings of 50 species of trees were planted in the fields of Gurjaspal Singh son of Sadhu Singh. Gurjaspal Singh has migrated to USA. As his family was no more dependent on farm income, he had decided to free his ancestral land in Punjab from paddy plantation earlier this year. Now the family has decided to bring their land under tree cover.
